Facilities Layout and Design

TSL has done plant layouts and designs for production and processing facilities for companies in Grenada, St. Vincent, Barbados, St. Lucia, Jamaica, Haiti, Suriname, West Africa, among others. In addition, the TSL team has directed the development of many horticultural product exporting operations over the last 10 years. These range from operations for major exporters to those in modest SME distribution and exporting companies. These facilities were designed to be fully GMP, GAP and HACCP certifiable, offering optimal efficiencies and flexibility that allow for multiple products to be handled concurrently.

Designs also optimize staff and equipment utilization, resulting in lower operating overheads. They facilitate full automation or, alternatively, operation in a semi-automated manner, and also feature optimization of the use of space, personnel and product flows, ease of receivals and deliveries, and efficient raw material and finished product handling. Where required, designs have employed environmentally friendly features to minimize any negative environmental impact. All layouts and designs meet all international, regulatory and other certification requirements. TSL also evaluates the designs and layouts of existing facilities and provides recommendations and guidance for meeting international standards.

HACCP and GMP Systems Implementation

TSL is recognized by officials of international regulatory bodies such as the United States Food and Drug Administration as experts in Food Safety and Thermal Processing. TSL is the only company in the region that has implemented HACCP systems that have been approved by the regulatory authorities in the United States and European Union, thereby facilitating exports to these markets. TSL and its Principal have also been approved by the Pesticide Initiative Programme (PIP) and EDES, as well as by the FDA to conduct training on their behalf.



TSL has provided many detailed assessments against the regulatory requirements of the FDA for exports to the USA, as well as the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) 2011. TSL has also provided technical assistance to several clients in implementing systems, procedures and practices to ensure compliance with the regulation. Our auditors are highly experienced and are certified against several Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) – compliant standards, including Safe Quality Foods (SQF) and British Retail Consortium (BRC).

We have conducted many pre-certification and certification audits against various standards including HACCP Accreditation from American Institute of Bakers international (AIB) and Guelph Food Technology Centre (GFTC), ISO 9001, the specific requirements of the FDA and/or the EU, GMPs, SSOPs, HACCP, Health, Safety and Production Audits.
